Job summary

Herotel Telecoms (Pty) Ltd in Worcester is seeking a hands-on Junior Field Technician to install Fibre and wireless services at homes and small businesses. You will install, repair and call out jobs across our networks while delivering great customer service.

The role requires a Grade 12, fibre splicing and RF/wireless experience, basic networking, and the ability to work safely at heights. On offer is training, exposure to a dynamic team and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 qualification.
  • Minimum 1 year Fibre Optic splicing experience.
  • Minimum 1 year RF/Wireless experience.
  • Knowledge of network structures and crimping techniques.
  • Basic networking knowledge.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Experience with fibre troubleshooting tools such as OTDR and fusion splicing equipment advantageous.
  • Valid driver’s licence with clean driving record.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills.
  • Good working knowledge of hand and power toolsProficiency in fibre cable termination and fusion splicing techniques.
  • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work neatly and accurately.
  • Technically minded with customer service experience.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments including lifting and climbing.
  • Medically fit and comfortable working at heights.
  • Self-disciplined, motivated and well organised.

Responsibilities

  • Follow SOPs and Health & Safety procedures with accurate documentation.
  • Coordinate with Team Leader and Scheduler for daily operations.
  • Prepare for daily jobs by checking stock and equipment.
  • Install Fibre and Wireless including CPE setup and cable runs.
  • Troubleshoot fibre: splicing, testing and dome management.
  • Troubleshoot wireless: signal testing and bandwidth validation.
  • Resolve basic network issues like IP conflicts and routing problems.
  • Install and configure VoIP systems.
  • Receive and update job cards; ensure stock alignment.
  • Verify RF signal strength and fibre allocations with Installation Team Leader.
  • Set up client equipment and verify functionality.
  • Upgrade firmware; capture evidence for QC.
  • Handle on-site callouts; communicate cost implications.
  • Obtain customer satisfaction before leaving site.
  • Perform CPE recoveries for Wireless and Fibre.
  • Complete accurate job cards and ticket updates for invoicing and reporting.
  • Work overtime, weekends and emergency call-outs when required.
  • Operate safely at heights.

Job description

Are you hands-on, technically minded and ready to build your career in fibre and wireless installations? Join our Networks team as a Junior Field Technician in Worcester, where you’ll perform standard home and small business installations, repairs and callouts across our Wireless and Fibre networks.

The key purpose of this role is to perform standard fibre and wireless installations, repairs and callouts while delivering excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

What you’ll do:
  • Follow all SOPs and Health & Safety procedures while maintaining accurate project and safety documentation
  • Work closely with the Team Leader and Scheduler to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Prepare for daily jobs by confirming stock availability and ensuring equipment is maintained
  • Conduct standard Fibre and Wireless installations including CPE setup and internal/external cable runs
  • Perform fibre troubleshooting including splicing, testing and dome management
  • Perform wireless troubleshooting including signal testing and bandwidth validation
  • Resolve basic network issues such as IP conflicts, firewall and routing problems
  • Install and configure VoIP systems
  • Receive and action daily job cards, ensuring correct stock and scope alignment
  • Communicate with Installation Team Leader to confirm RF signal strength and fibre allocations
  • Set up and verify client equipment functionality
  • Upgrade firmware, complete clean-up and capture photographic evidence for quality control
  • Troubleshoot and resolve on-site callouts efficiently while communicating cost implications where applicable
  • Confirm client satisfaction before leaving site
  • Perform CPE recoveries for Wireless and Fibre including equipment removal and job card completion
  • Complete accurate job cards and ticket updates for invoicing and reporting
  • Work overtime, weekends and emergency call-outs when required
  • Operate safely at heights and in confined spaces
What you’ll need:
  • Grade 12 qualification
