Job summary

Herotel Telecoms (Pty) Ltd in Tshwane is seeking a motivated Junior Infrastructure Technician to support construction, installation and maintenance of wireless and fibre infrastructure under supervision.

You will climb towers, assist with fibre builds, perform safety checks, and work closely with senior technicians to ensure network performance while adhering to safety standards. Candidate should have Grade 12 and 1–2 years' experience, valid driver’s licence, and willingness to travel.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 qualification; Mathematics and Science advantageous.
  • 1–2 years’ relevant industry experience.
  • Valid driver’s licence; off‑road driving advantageous.
  • Valid medical certificate meeting role requirements.
  • Training: Working at Heights and Tower Rescue completed.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Physically fit and able to climb structures carrying equipment (≤125kg).
  • Waist circumference not exceeding 150cm for safety equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in construction, installation and maintenance of towers, fibre networks and supporting structures.
  • Support high site outage responses and fibre break repairs.
  • Climb tall structures (50m+) carrying up to 20kg.
  • Install, replace and maintain antenna systems and tower equipment.
  • Assist with expanding fibre infrastructure and cable/trunking work.
  • Weatherproof installations and maintenance of power equipment and routers.
  • Follow job cards, escalate risks to seniors, and ensure safety compliance.
  • Travel extensively, sometimes on short notice.

Are you physically fit, technically inclined and eager to build your career in wireless and fibre infrastructure? Join our Networks team as a Junior Infrastructure Technician in Tshwane, where you’ll support the construction, installation and maintenance of critical network infrastructure under the guidance of senior technicians.

The key purpose of this role is to support the construction, installation and maintenance of wireless and fibre infrastructure under supervision, while upholding strict safety standards and contributing to uninterrupted network performance.

What you’ll do:
  • Assist in the construction, installation and maintenance of communications towers, fibre networks and supporting structures
  • Support high site outage responses and fibre network break repairs
  • Climb tall structures (50 metres or more) carrying loads of up to 20kg
  • Install, replace and maintain antenna systems and related tower equipment
  • Assist with building, repairing and expanding fibre infrastructure where required
  • Install and maintain various cable and connector types
  • Weatherproof installations to ensure long‑term durability
  • Install, maintain and repair power equipment and data routers
  • Follow job cards and work schedules accurately, escalating risks or challenges to senior technicians
  • Identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with all safety standards
  • Assist with erecting self‑supporting and stayed masts
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work areas
  • Travel extensively, sometimes at short notice
  • Communicate clearly with team members and management regarding work progress and risks
  • Perform ad hoc tasks as required by your manager
What you’ll need:
  • Grade 12 qualification (Mathematics and Science advantageous)
  • 1–2 years’ relevant industry experience
  • Valid driver’s licence (off‑road driving experience advantageous)
  • Valid medical certificate meeting role requirements
  • Working at Heights and Tower Rescue Training completed
  • Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Physically fit and able to climb structures carrying equipment (combined weight not exceeding 125kg as per safety specifications)
  • Waist circumference not exceeding 150cm as per safety equipment manufacturer requirements
  • Basic understanding of AC/DC electricity and solar energy systems
  • Basic knowledge of power and battery equipment
  • Basic understanding of network and RF principles
  • Working knowledge of network hardware and routing fundamentals
  • Basic knowledge of cable and trunking techniques
  • Proficiency in the use of safety harnesses and climbing gear
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risk while maintaining a safe working environment
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork ability
  • Basic fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and follow instructions accurately
