Octotel in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, is hiring for a Fibre Installations Technician. Join a fast-growing Open Access network focused on FTTH/FTTB services across Cape Town, with a large fibre footprint and partnerships with many providers.

The role involves building and maintaining networks, connecting buildings, splicing and cutting over new joints, site surveys, and contractor liaison in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

  • Matric or equivalent is required.
  • 3 years' fibre installation experience.
  • CFOT certificate is advantageous.
  • Valid code 8 driver’s license is essential.
  • Experience using power-tools.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain the network.
  • Connect buildings.
  • Evaluate floating and splicing for routes and access.
  • Assist with technical support.
  • Assist with new links builds where needed.
  • Attend to breaks with the SLA (MTTR).
  • Identify high-density traffic routes and hotspots.
  • Maintain cut-overs and cable splicing of new joints.
  • Ensure quality workmanship.
  • Manage electrical and hand tool inventories.

We are Cape Town’s largest Open Access Network focused on both Fibre To The Home (FTTH) and Business (FTTB). Our fibre network has passed over 400 000 homes and businesses in Cape Town. Job Duties:
  • Build and maintain network
  • Connect buildings
  • Evaluation of floating and splicing on the projects (Route and Access)
  • Assist with Technical support
  • Assist with new links builds where needed
  • Attend to breaks with the SLA (MTTR)
  • Identify and manage high density traffic routes and congested HHs (hot spots)
  • Maintain, responsible for cut-overs and cable splicing of new joints in new areas
  • Responsible for quality workmanship
  • Responsible for the electrical and hand tool inventory to be used.
  • Delivering and distributing supplies (expect some heavy lifting).
  • Assembling and disassembling equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain stock.
  • Conducting site surveys with our contractors for side ops.
  • Identifying and flagging manholes for maintenance and performing network audits.
  • Node inspections & ensuring emergency stock levels are recorded.
  • Supports third-party contractors and attending kick-off meetings.
  • And any other reasonable task.
Requirements
  • Matric Certificate or equivalent
  • Tertiary level IT or Telecommunications qualification is preferred
  • 3 years' experience performing fibre installations
  • A CFOT certificate is advantageous
  • Valid code 8 driver's license is essential
  • Experience using power-tools.
