Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Farm Manager to oversee a large agricultural unit in Tembisa, Gauteng. You will lead day-to-day farming activities, manage a diverse workforce, and ensure efficient, profitable crop production.

The role requires a degree in Agriculture or Farm Management, at least 5 years in farm leadership, strong knowledge of crop science and pest control, and the ability to implement best practices with precision and safety.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, Farm Management or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of proven farm management experience.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
• Strong knowledge of crop science, soil management and pest/disease control.
• Experience with farm machinery operation and maintenance.
• Proficient in record-keeping and basic financial management.
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure during peak seasons.
• Valid driver's license is essential for this role in Gauteng.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage day-to-day farming activities, including planting, cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
• Develop and implement annual farm plans and budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control.
• Supervise and lead a team of farm workers, providing training, guidance, and performance management.
• Oversee the maintenance and repair of farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
• Implement and monitor crop protection programs, including pest, disease, and weed control.
• Manage irrigation systems and ensure optimal water usage.
• Maintain accurate records of all farm operations, including planting dates, yields, inputs, and labor.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations on the farm in Gauteng.
• Source and manage agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and chemicals.
• Liaise with suppliers, distributors, and agricultural service providers.
