Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Farm Operations Manager to lead extensive agricultural operations in Tembisa, Gauteng. This hands-on role oversees planting through harvest, budget planning, and team management to maximise yield and profitability.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in farm management, strong crop knowledge, budgeting skills, and the ability to lead diverse teams while adopting sustainable practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, or related field; Master’s degree a plus.
• Minimum 7 years in farm management with track record in crop production.
• Strong knowledge of crop types, soil management, pest/disease control relevant to the region.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage all farm operations including planting, irrigation, pest control, and harvesting.
• Develop and implement annual operating plans and budgets.
• Supervise, train, and mentor farm supervisors and labour, ensuring productivity and safety.
• Monitor crop health and environmental conditions and address issues.
• Oversee maintenance of farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with agricultural regulations, health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Manage inventory of seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, and other supplies.
• Evaluate effectiveness of farming techniques and recommend improvements.
• Maintain records of activities, yields, expenses, and labour.
• Liaise with suppliers, buyers, and stakeholders for smooth operations.
