Job summary

Goldi, part of the Astral Group, is seeking an experienced Millwright to oversee and maintain breeder farm mechanical and electrical infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted operations and strict biosecurity compliance.

The role requires a Red Seal Millwright Trade Test certificate or N3-level engineering qualification, plus a minimum of 3 years post-apprenticeship experience in industrial maintenance. Weekend and holiday work may be required.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Millwright Trade Test Certificate or equivalent required.
• N3 or higher engineering qualification is required.
• Minimum 3 years post-apprenticeship maintenance experience in industrial/FMCG/agricultural settings.
• Experience on poultry farms or breeder facilities is a major advantage.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, PPM, and repairs on breeder farm equipment.
• Fault-find and repair generators, ventilation fans, pumps, and electrical systems.
• Disassemble, overhaul, align, and install process machinery with precision tools.
• Maintain compliance with OH&S, bylaws, and biosecurity protocols.
• Adhere to biosecurity and health & safety standards in a living-stock facility.
• Participate in standby roster for 24/7 farm operation support.

Millwright (Breeders)

Goldi, one of South Africa's leading integrated poultry producers within the Astral Group, is seeking an experienced, reliable and meticulous Millwright to oversee and maintain the critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure of the breeder farm to guarantee uninterrupted operations and biosecurity compliance.

Role Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and repairs on all mechanical and electrical breeder farm equipment.
• Fault-find and repair issues with generators, ventilation fans, pumps, and electrical systems to prevent operational stoppages.
• Disassemble, overhaul, align, and install process machinery and automated equipment using precision measuring instruments.
• Maintain absolute compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations, local farm bylaws, and internal biosecurity protocols.
• Adhere strictly to biosecurity protocols and health and safety standards required within a living-stock facility.
• Participate in the maintenance standby roster to support a 24/7 continuous farm operation.

Required Qualifications And Knowledge

• Valid Section 13 or Section 26D Red Seal Millwright Trade Test Certificate. An N3 or higher qualification in engineering studies is required.
• Minimum of 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience as a qualified artisan in an industrial, FMCG, or agricultural maintenance environment.
• Prior experience on a poultry farm, or breeder facility is a major advantage.
• Proficient in reading electrical/mechanical schematics, PLC fault-finding, welding, and advanced hydraulics.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing operational requirements.
• Must be willing to work weekends and public holidays.
