Job summary

Protea Hotels by Marriott in Durban (14 Palm Boulevard, Umhlanga Rocks) seeks an experienced Engineering/Facilities Manager to oversee all engineering and maintenance operations, with emphasis on safety, asset protection, energy conservation and regulatory compliance.

You will manage budgets, capital projects, preventative maintenance, and lead the emergency response efforts for facility issues. Strong leadership and coordination with external contractors are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; 3 years experience in engineering and maintenance; HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing technical training.
• OR
• 2-year degree in Building and Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or related major; 1 year experience in engineering and maintenance; HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing technical training.

Responsibilities

• Manages the physical plant including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment and electrical systems.
• Ensures regulatory compliance to facility regulations and safety standards.
• Manages energy use and recommends conservation methods.
• Develops specifications and requirements for service contracts and administers contracts.
• Oversees maintenance of grounds, guestrooms, public spaces, and related facilities.
• Develops long-term preventative maintenance plans and asset protection strategies.
