Job summary

Omnia Holdings’ BME division invites applications for an Operator (Explosives Truck) – Permanent based in Newcastle, KZN. The role loads blast holes, conducts inspections, and helps maintain SHERQ compliance in a mining context.

You will supervise the Truck Assistant, perform pre-use checks, complete loading sheets, and contribute to safe, efficient blasting operations in line with BME standards.

Qualifications

• Mathematics included in Grade 12 with pass marks.
• EC Code 14 driver’s license and EC endorsement.
• Dangerous Goods and Passengers permit (DGP) required.

Responsibilities

• Ensures that all SHERQ requirements are met.
• Receives the charging instruction from the Blaster.
• Inspects holes and measures to ensure correct depth.
• Reports any out of spec holes to blaster.
• Calculates correct mass of product per hole and reports discrepancies.
• Inspects pumps and settings before pumping.
• Takes samples to assess product density before charging.
• Reports out of spec analyses to Foreman and verifies product quality.
• Reports out of spec settings or equipment and ensures safe charging.
• Engages pumping process and loads holes per design specs with SHERQ compliance.
• Takes samples per BME standards to ensure quality.
• Completes loading sheets and pre-use checklists as per BME standards.
• Completes grease schedules, calibrations and truck performance.
• Supervises the Truck Assistant.
