Job summary

Ikwezi Mining (Pty) Ltd is seeking an experienced Blasting Operator to perform drilling and blasting in accordance with approved plans and strict safety protocols. You will operate drilling equipment, load explosives, and ensure proper stemming to achieve desired fragmentation while minimizing flyrock.

The role requires 3–5 years in coal blasting, certification as a Blaster, strong safety discipline, and the ability to coordinate with production teams on site in Mpumalanga.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification as Blaster (Opencast) required.
• 3–5 years’ experience in drilling and blasting in coal mining.
• Knowledge of blasting techniques, explosives safety, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to operate drilling equipment and blasting accessories safely.

Responsibilities

• Perform drilling and blasting according to approved plans and safety protocols.
• Operate drilling equipment to create blast holes of specified dimensions and angles.
• Load explosives into blast holes using proper charging techniques and equipment.
• Ensure proper placement and stemming to achieve desired fragmentation and minimize flyrock.
• Conduct pre-blast safety inspections and risk assessments.
• Coordinate blasting activities with mine production schedules and communicate with team.
• Maintain safety equipment and PPE usage to ensure a safe working environment.
• Minimize environmental impact through dust suppression and water management.
