Job description

Enterprise and team enrollments are NGL's next major growth lever. This role is part commercial, part operational, part strategic — build the enterprise function from the ground up.

NGL — Next Generation Learning
Location: Remote (Cape Town preferred) · Reports to: Growth & AI Enablement Director · Type: Full-time

We don't have an enterprise sales team. We don't have a playbook. What we have is a product organizations are already asking for and a clear opportunity to build something from the ground up.

About NGL

NGL builds AI-powered courses with the world's leading universities. Our AI-guided courses have achieved NPS scores of 85+. We're a team of 15 doing what would traditionally require a much larger organization.

Founded by Sam Paddock (co-founder of GetSmarter, acquired by 2U/NASDAQ for $103M). Our thesis: great people + generative AI = outsized results. That applies to our product and how we work.

The Role

Enterprise and team enrollments are NGL's next major growth lever. Students take our courses, return to their organizations, and ask how to bring their teams in. We're seeing interest from many great companies. The demand is emerging organically. The function to capture and scale it doesn't exist yet.

This role is part commercial, part operational, part strategic. You'll:

  • Own the pipeline, from inbound inquiry through to close
  • Triage and qualify leads, knowing which need enterprise treatment and which can move fast
  • Prepare proposals, coordinate discovery calls, manage handoffs between functions
  • Work cross-functionally with Learning Design, Course Delivery, and Product to shape what we offer
  • Build the playbook as you go, documenting what works so we can scale it
  • Use AI as a daily operating tool, not just the product we sell, but how you work
Who This Person Is

We're hiring for character and capability over credentials. Your title history matters less than what you've actually built and how you operate.

You can hold complexity without needing to simplify it prematurely.
This role sits at the intersection of sales, operations, and relationship management. On any given day you might have six deals at different stages: a transactional 3-person enrollment that just needs an invoice, a warm alumni lead exploring team options, a Fortune 500 VP who wants custom product development, and a university president who took the course and wants to enroll 40 leaders. You read which situation you're in and adjust accordingly.

You know when you're not the expert.
You don't try to be the hero on every call. When the conversation needs someone from Learning Design or Product, you bring them in. You play your position. You're confident enough to say "let me check with the team" instead of overpromising to close a deal.

You can manage across levels.
You'll brief the CEO on a strategic account, coordinate with Learning Design on context extraction, manage a sales rep who keeps going off-script, and hold your own with a VP of Enterprise Learning at a Fortune 500. That range requires presence without ego.

You're process-minded but not rigid.
You'll follow the playbook for standard deals. But you'll recognize when to deviate for strategic accounts: when a 10-person pilot should get enterprise treatment because of what it could unlock. You hold the system and know when to break it.

You use AI as a working tool.
Not "curious about AI" — you actually use it. To draft communications, analyze call transcripts, build processes, create assets, think through problems. This isn't a nice-to-have. It's how we work. If you're not already using AI tools daily, this isn't the role.

You've built something from scratch.
A startup, a new business line, a market entry, a function that didn't exist. You know what it takes to go from a blank page to something that works. You did not just grow something; you started it.

And Tactically
  • You write tight. Your emails are short. You don't add fluff. When a Fortune 500 VP says "my people want 2-3 minute videos," you hear it and apply it to how you communicate with her.
  • You stay organized under complexity. Multiple deals, different stages, different stakeholders, different pricing tiers, different cohort dates. You don't drop balls. You don't rely on memory.
  • You think expansion, not just close. When someone mentions future cohorts or bringing in other disciplines, you note it. You're building relationships, not just transactions.
  • You read context before acting. You know the difference between a warm lead who needs logistics and a cold inquiry that needs nurturing. You do not oversell someone who's already bought.
A Note on Fit

In the interest of honesty, this probably isn't right if:

  • Your experience is managing existing pipelines. We need someone who can create the pipeline, not just run one.
  • You work best within established structures. Those don't exist here; you'd be building them.
  • You're looking for a pure sales role. This is commercial at its core, but also operational and cross-functional.
  • You don't use AI tools in your daily work. This isn't negotiable.
The Opportunity

Enterprise growth is the lever that changes NGL's trajectory. If you build this well, you won't just have closed deals — you'll have shaped how the company scales.

You'll work directly with the founding team, sell a product students genuinely love, and do it at a company proving a new model for education.
