Job summary

AECOM in Cape Town is seeking a senior structural engineer to design and deliver concrete and steel structures for international projects. You will lead design tasks, collaborate with a project team, and contribute to documentation and site support.

The role requires a B.Eng (M.Eng preferred) and strong proficiency in structural software, with Revit knowledge a plus. Expect a hybrid work model and opportunities to grow within a global infrastructure leader.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years’ design experience for concrete and steel structures.
• Proficient with structural analysis software (Tekla Structural Designer, Etabs, Robot, Idea Statica).
• Revit Structures knowledge is advantageous.
• Experience in the design of reinforced concrete and structural steel buildings.
• Finite element design of concrete structures (flat slab design).
• Experience leading small design projects with resource planning and time estimates.
• Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) required; M.Eng preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical, literacy and numerical skills.
• Good commercial awareness and risk management skills.
• Good planning and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for structural design and drawings.

Job Description

Here is what you will be doing:

• Under the supervision of a Senior Engineer, perform detailed structural designs and calculations for structural systems in commercial and industrial fields for both reinforced concrete and structural steel type structures.
• When required assist with Revit modelling.
• Take responsibility for structural design and drawings.
• Be part of a project team, liaise with other professional team members and contractors.
• Attend planning, design and site meetings, and ad-hoc site inspections.
• Manage less complicated projects
• Work to ensure the implementation of safety and integrity principles in structural documentation.
• Promote compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities.
• Work will mostly be on international projects.

Qualifications

Here is what we are looking for:

• Minimum 4 years’ experience in design of concrete and steel structures.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of structural analysis software like Tekla Structural Designer / Etabs / Robot / Idea Statica, etc.
• Revit Structures knowledge will be advantageous.
• Must have experience in the design of reinforced concrete and structural steel buildings.
• Finite element design of concrete structures, specifically flat slab design.
• Some experience in leading small design projects, including resource planning and design time frame estimates.
• B.Eng. Degree
• M.Eng. Degree preferable
