Job summary

AECOM is seeking a structural engineer in Cape Town to deliver detailed designs for concrete and steel structures on international projects. You will work under a Senior Engineer, contribute to drawings, and participate in site and planning meetings.

The role requires a minimum of 4 years’ experience, proficiency with Tekla/ETABS/Robot/Idea Statica, and a B.Eng (M.Eng preferred). Revit Structures knowledge is a plus; strong communication and delivery focus are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years’ experience in design of concrete and steel structures.
• Solid knowledge of structural analysis software (Tekla, ETABS, Robot, Idea Statica).
• Revit Structures knowledge is advantageous; experience in reinforced concrete and steel buildings.

Responsibilities

• Provide detailed structural designs and calculations for concrete and steel structures in commercial/industrial projects.
• Assist with Revit modelling when requested.
• Take responsibility for structural design and drawings.
• Liaise with project team members and contractors; attend planning, design and site meetings.
• Manage less complex projects and ensure safety and integrity in documentation.

Job Description

Here is what you will be doing:

• Under the supervision of a Senior Engineer, perform detailed structural designs and calculations for structural systems in commercial and industrial fields for both reinforced concrete and structural steel type structures.
• When required assist with Revit modelling.
• Take responsibility for structural design and drawings.
• Be part of a project team, liaise with other professional team members and contractors.
• Attend planning, design and site meetings, and ad-hoc site inspections.
• Manage less complicated projects
• Work to ensure the implementation of safety and integrity principles in structural documentation.
• Promote compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities.
• Work will mostly be on international projects.

Qualifications

Here is what we are looking for:

• Minimum 4 years’ experience in design of concrete and steel structures.
• Solid knowledge and understanding of structural analysis software like Tekla Structural Designer / Etabs / Robot / Idea Statica, etc.
• Revit Structures knowledge will be advantageous.
• Must have experience in the design of reinforced concrete and structural steel buildings.
• Finite element design of concrete structures, specifically flat slab design.
• Some experience in leading small design projects, including resource planning and design time frame estimates.
• B.Eng. Degree
• M.Eng. Degree preferable
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work under pressure and understand the importance of delivery and client satisfaction
• Strong analytical, literacy and numerical skills
• Good planning and organizational skills
