Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, or related discipline.
• Experience working with children/adolescents in residential or care settings.
• Understanding of child development theories and trauma‑informed care principles.
• Excellent communication and active listening skills.
• Patience, empathy and ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Proficiency in conflict resolution and behaviour management techniques.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background check.
• Basic computer literacy for record-keeping.
• Strong ethical compass and commitment to child protection.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and supervision to children and youth in a residential facility.
• Develop and implement daily routines, including meals, hygiene, and bedtime schedules.
• Support the educational needs of residents, assisting with homework and encouraging school attendance.
• Facilitate therapeutic and recreational activities to promote emotional and social development.
• Manage challenging behaviours constructively and implement appropriate intervention strategies.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with the children and young people.
• Maintain detailed incident reports and progress notes for each resident.
• Collaborate with colleagues, social workers, and external stakeholders to ensure comprehensive care.
• Ensure the safety and security of the residential environment in Tembisa, Gauteng.
• Promote a sense of community and belonging among residents.
