Job summary

La Residence in Franschhoek, South Africa, seeks a Sommelier or Wine Specialist to work with Restaurant Management, the Group Beverage Manager, and hotel Duty Managers to deliver the finest wine service and stock management.

You will host tastings, influence the wine list, supervise staff, manage stock, and uphold The Royal Portfolio standards while creating a distinctive guest wine experience.

Qualifications

• WSET Level 2/3 or Sommelier qualification with exceptional wine knowledge
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a hotel/restaurant environment
• Excellent sales skills and ability to upskill
• Leadership and staff development mindset
• Organised with strong administrative skills
• Team player, flexible, able to work shifts

Responsibilities

• Provide wine recommendations on the floor during service
• Host wine tastings on property or on tour
• Provide input on the wine list to the Group Beverage Manager
• Stock control and proper bottle storage in barn and cellar
• Related admin – invoicing, sales, storage etc.
• Train Wine Stewards across properties as required
• Promote beverage sales and minimise waste
• Adhere to The Royal Portfolio and Leading Hotels of the World service standards
