Placements24 client in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, seeks an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to oversee on-site electrical systems in a heavy industrial setting. You will perform proactive and reactive maintenance on HV/MV equipment, drive reliability improvements, and ensure safety compliance across all electrical infrastructure.

You must hold a National Diploma or Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with at least 4 years of industrial maintenance experience.

Competenze

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 4+ years of electrical maintenance experience in heavy industry.
• Experience with HV and MV equipment and distribution systems.
• Knowledge of motor control, VFDs, PLCs and instrumentation.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical docs.

About the Role

Our client, a major industrial facility located in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal , requires a dedicated Electrical Maintenance Engineer to ensure the optimal and safe operation of their extensive electrical infrastructure. This is an on‑site position focused on proactive and reactive maintenance of complex industrial electrical systems, including high‑voltage distribution, motor control centers, and process control instrumentation. You will be responsible for minimizing downtime, improving system reliability, and implementing preventative maintenance strategies. The successful candidate will possess a strong hands‑on approach, exceptional diagnostic skills, and a commitment to upholding the highest safety standards in a heavy industrial environment. Key Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on all plant electrical equipment, including motors, transformers, switchgear, and control systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults and failures to minimize production downtime.
• Develop and implement electrical maintenance strategies and schedules to enhance reliability and reduce costs.
• Ensure all electrical maintenance activities comply with safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
• Manage spare parts inventory for electrical components and systems.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
• Assist in the commissioning and installation of new electrical equipment and systems.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and report on equipment performance and reliability.
• Supervise and guide maintenance technicians and contractors as required.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical maintenance within a heavy industrial setting (e.g., mining, manufacturing, chemical processing).
• Proven experience with high‑voltage (HV) and medium‑voltage (MV) equipment and distribution systems.
• Strong knowledge of motor control, VFDs, PLCs, and industrial instrumentation.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with safety procedures and regulations relevant to industrial electrical work (e.g., LOTO, Arc Flash).
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work shifts and be part of an on‑call roster as needed.
