Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus; Master’s degree advantageous.
• ≥5 years in power systems engineering with grid integration and renewable projects.
• Experience with protection relays, substations, and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform power system studies (load flow, short circuit, stability, harmonics) for grid-connected renewables.
• Develop and review grid interconnection applications and requirements.
• Design electrical systems for renewable plants ensuring compliance with grid codes and standards.
• Specify protection schemes and control systems for generators and grid interface equipment.

This vital role will involve the technical design, analysis, and implementation of electrical systems that connect renewable energy sources to the national grid. You will be instrumental in ensuring grid stability, compliance with interconnection standards, and optimizing the performance of energy projects. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of power system dynamics, grid codes, and protection schemes. Key Responsibilities

• Perform power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, stability, and harmonic analysis for grid-connected renewable energy projects.
• Develop and review grid interconnection applications and technical requirements.
• Design electrical systems for renewable energy plants, ensuring compliance with utility grid codes and standards.
• Specify protection schemes and control systems for generators and grid interface equipment.

• Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide technical support during the construction, commissioning, and operational phases of projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a strong focus on Power Systems. A Master's degree is advantageous.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in power systems engineering, with specific experience in grid integration and renewable energy projects.
• Proficiency in power system simulation software such as PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, or similar.
• In-depth knowledge of grid interconnection standards, requirements, and challenges in South Africa or similar markets.
• Experience with protection relays, substation design, and control systems for power generation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple project tasks in a timely manner.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with energy market regulations is a plus.
