Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical engineering design and development of grid connection systems for large-scale renewable energy projects (solar, wind, battery storage).
• Perform detailed engineering calculations, load flow studies, short circuit analysis, and protection coordination.
• Develop technical specifications, single-line diagrams, wiring schematics, and control system architectures.
• Oversee the procurement and commissioning of electrical equipment, ensuring compliance with standards and project requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of electrical engineers and designers.
• Collaborate with grid operators, utility companies, and regulatory bodies to ensure successful grid integration.
• Conduct site visits for inspections, troubleshooting, and technical support as needed.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in grid technology, power systems engineering, and renewable energy integration standards.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the South African energy infrastructure development, is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Electrical Engineer to join their esteemed engineering department in **Centurion, Gauteng**. This is a critical, on-site role where you will lead the design, development, and implementation of advanced grid integration solutions for renewable energy projects. You will be responsible for ensuring the stability, reliability, and efficiency of the grid as it accommodates increasing volumes of renewable energy sources. This position requires a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise and a proven ability to manage complex engineering projects from inception to completion. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive innovation in grid modernization.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.


• Professional registration with ECSA (Engineering Council of South Africa) or eligibility for registration.


• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in power systems engineering, with a strong focus on grid integration of renewable energy sources.


• In-depth knowledge of grid codes, power system stability, protection schemes, and SCADA systems.


• Proficiency in power system analysis software such as PSS/E, ETAP, DigSILENT PowerFactory, or similar.


• Experience with high-voltage substation design and equipment is essential.


• Strong leadership, team management, and communication skills.


• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.


• Familiarity with South African electrical regulations and standards.
