Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Junior Legal Advisor (contract law focused) in Durban. The role offers hands-on learning within a corporate legal department, drafting, reviewing, and managing commercial agreements, with mentorship and exposure to a broad range of transactions.

You will support internal business units on contractual matters, maintain contract records, and assist with policy development and regulatory compliance within our client’s Durban office.

Qualifications

• LLB degree from an accredited institution.
• Admitted as an Attorney or Advocate is advantageous but not essential.
• 1–3 years post-qualification experience in contract law.
• Proven ability to draft and review commercial contracts.
• Strong understanding of SA contract law and related regulations.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts including supplier and service agreements, NDAs, and leases.
• Provide legal guidance to internal business units on contractual terms and obligations.
• Manage contract lifecycle and maintain a contract database with key dates and renewals.
• Conduct contract-related legal research and prepare concise memos.
• Support senior counsel in litigation and dispute resolution related to contracts.
• Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and contract policies.
• Assist in developing and implementing contract management procedures.
• Coordinate with external counsel for specialized advice as needed.
• Maintain organized records of all contractual documentation.
