Job summary

Maersk in Durban is seeking a Customs Delivery Agent to join our team. You will manage customs clearance, verify documentation, coordinate with brokers and regulators, and provide proactive customer support throughout the shipment lifecycle to ensure timely releases.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Customs Compliance, Freight Forwarding, or a related field.
• 2-3 years' experience in customs clearance, freight forwarding, shipping, logistics, customs brokerage, or a related industry.
• Experience working with customs documentation, regulatory authorities, and import/export processes.
• Knowledge of South African customs regulations and Other Government Agency requirements.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review and verify the completeness and accuracy of documents prior to customs clearance submission.
• Ensure timely submission of customs documentation to brokerage teams to facilitate clearance.
• Ensure compliance with customs legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate submissions to OGAs and regulatory authorities as required.
• Support permits and trade certificates including VAT-related documents as applicable.
• Monitor clearance progress and ensure cargo releases within set turnaround times.
• Liaise with brokers, customers, carriers and authorities to resolve queries and minimize delays.
• Maintain accurate shipment records and audit trails in compliance with regulations.
