Placements24 seeks a Lead Bio-Process Engineer in Durban, South Africa, to drive design, optimization, and scale-up of bioprocesses for novel therapeutics. You will oversee cross-functional teams, ensure GMP-compliant operations, and lead process validation efforts.

The role demands a PhD/masters in a related field with 8+ years in bioprocess development and manufacturing, and strong leadership and problem-solving skills within a biotech or pharma setting.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Bio-process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in bioprocess development and manufacturing within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
• Proven track record in leading teams and managing complex bioprocess engineering projects.
• Strong knowledge of GMP regulations and validation principles.
• Experience with process modeling and simulation tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and optimization of bioprocesses for biologics production (cell culture, fermentation, downstream processing).
• Oversee pilot-scale and commercial-scale manufacturing operations ensuring quality and regulatory compliance (GMP).
• Manage a team of bio-process engineers and technicians with mentorship and performance management.
• Develop and execute process validation strategies and campaigns.
• Prepare technical reports and regulatory documentation.
• Collaborate with R&D, QA, and manufacturing for seamless project execution.
• Identify and implement technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
