Job summary

The Department of Health at Weskoppies Hospital is seeking a Driver to carry out authorized trips for MHCU’s and staff. You will collect and deliver documents, medication and specimens between facilities, while performing vehicle checks and maintaining logs.

Applicants should have a Grade 10 or equivalent, a valid Code 10/C1 with PDP, and at least two years of heavy-vehicle driving experience. Willingness to work shifts, weekends and holidays is essential, and a driving test may be required.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 certificate or equivalent.
• Valid Code 10/C1 driver's license with PDP.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience driving heavy vehicles.
• Willing to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and under pressure.
• Be prepared to undergo a driving test.
• SAQA evaluation for foreign qualifications if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Execute all authorized trips for MHCU’s and Staff.
• Collect and deliver documents and goods to and from other institutions.
• Transport medication and specimens to and from wards, pharmacy and other institutions.
• Perform vehicle inspections and check disk and COF.
• Complete logbook and record fuel card usage.
• Report accidents/incidents immediately to Transport Officer.
• Ensure vehicle and accessories are kept secure and clean.

Requirements

• Applicants must be in possession of a Grade 10Certificate or equivalent qualification and a valid driver’s license Code 10/ C1 with a valid Professional Driver Permit (PDP). Proof of renewal of PDP to be attached if expired. Minimum of two years’ experience in driving heavy vehicles. Good understanding of Government fleet and knowledge of the transport handbook policy will be a recommendation. Be able to work in a team. Have good communication skills (verbal and written) and good customer care. Must be prepared to work shifts, weekends, public holidays and be able to work under pressure. Must be prepared to undergo a driving test.
• Personnel Suitability Checks (criminal checks, citizenship checks, qualification verification, company directorship, social media, financial record checks, reference checks) must be conducted prior to appointment.
• Candidates in possession of a foreign qualification must furnish the Department with an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA).
• The recommended candidate may be subjected to medical surveillance as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act 5/1993.
