Job summary

Department of Health at CHRIS HANI BARAGWANATH LAUNDRY invites applications for a Driver role. The package is R 170 226.00 PER ANNUM (PLUS BENEFITS). Duties include transporting linen, staff and records, ensuring vehicle readiness and safety, and maintaining documents.

Requirements include ABET Level 4 or Grade 10, Code 10/C1 with PDP, and at least 3 years’ driving experience. You must work well under pressure and liaise with stakeholders; closing date 04-09-2026.

Qualifications

  • ABET Level 4 or Grade 10 is required.
  • Code 10/C1 driver’s license with valid PDP.
  • At least 3 years’ driving experience.
  • Willing to undergo testing and medical surveillance.
  • Knowledge of Labour Relations processes is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Execute all authorized transportation trips of linen, staff and records to destinations.
  • Check fuel, water, oil and tires before each trip and report any issues.
  • Complete vehicle inspection forms and report dents or defects.
  • Safekeep vehicle keys and ensure vehicle is clean after each shift.
  • Deliver and collect linen; sign for all deliveries.
  • Maintain OH&S compliance and complete the vehicle lock book.
  • Transport patients to hospitals as required.
  • Provide portfolio of evidence of work achieved.

Requirements
  • Abet Level 4 or Grade 10. Code 10/C1 drivers’ licence with valid PDP drivers permit. 3 years’ experience in driving. Applicant should be prepared to undergo drivers testing and medical surveillance as an inherent job requirement.Skills/Knowledge/Competence: Basic understanding of Policies (Batho Pele Principles, Patients Right Charter, Occupational Health and Safety, Six Priorities and National Core Standards). Ability to work under pressure. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skill. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to communicate well with people at different levels. Ability to organize and plan. Ability to act with tact and discretion. Must be self-motivated. Ability to handle tasks of multidisciplinary nature and work independently and in a team. Knowledge of Labour Relations processes. Must be prepared to engage in intensive labour practices. High level of reliability. Good customer skills and competencies. Must be able to work under pressure and to take initiative. Knowledge of regulations and the legislative framework related to Laundry. Experience in a similar environment or health entity will be an added advantage.
Duties
  • Execute all authorized transportation trips of linen, staff, records, linen to relevant destinations. Check the level and condition of fuel, water, oil and tires every time before driving a vehicle. Complete the vehicle inspection form after checking vehicle for any problems (e.g. dents and scratches) and report dents and scratches on vehicles. Report and complete the accident report when involved in a motor vehicle accident immediately. Report minor and major defects on the vehicle to supervisor. Responsible for safekeeping of vehicle keys, while vehicles are in use. Responsible for spare wheel, jack and all other tools in vehicle. Ensure that the vehicle is clean and in a good condition before handing back the keys at the end of the shift. Report low fuel level to Despatcher at the end of your shift. Collect and deliver Soiled linen: Collect clean linen from different wards. Advise supervisor/manager of all undelivered /collected Linen. Ensure that all deliveries and collections are signed for. Compliance and progress report. Provide portfolio of evidence on work achieved. Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act prescripts and procedures at all times. Complete vehicle lock book as prescribed by legislations. Attend to enquiries in a professional manner and give guidance and advice. Promote the safekeeping of the vehicles from damages. Comply with the rotation roster. Adhere to all legal instructions given to you written or verbally by a senior staff member. Adhere to timelines. Attend meetings and training as approved by the supervisor. Comply with the Performance Management and Development System (PMDS). Transporting of patients to various hospitals and/or internal hospital trips.
