Job summary

The Department of Health at Edenvale Regional Hospital in Gauteng seeks a Laundry Worker to operate laundry machines, iron and fold linen, and ensure timely delivery of laundered items to wards.

Minimum requirements are ABET/Grade 10. Hospital laundry experience is advantageous. You should communicate well, be reliable, able to work shifts including nights, and rotate through all laundry areas.

Qualifications

• ABET or Grade 10 is required.
• Experience in a hospital laundry environment is advantageous.
• Ability to operate laundry machines and handle linen with care.

Responsibilities

• Clean laundry area and machines; operate washing, drying, ironing, and pressing equipment.
• Iron, fold, count and pack laundered items and seal linen bags.
• Collect and deliver linen to clients except Edenvale hospital.
• Sort and record dirty linen; report machine defaults to supervisor.
• Carry out duties as directed by supervisor; rotate through all laundry areas.

Requirements

• Minimum requirement - Abet or grade 10. Hospital environment experience. Laundry experience will be advantageous. Understanding of a laundry set up. Possess good communication skills, be able to work shifts especially night shift when a need arise. Be able to rotate in all areas in the laundry. Honest and reliable. Possess physical strength to cope with physical demands of position. Be able to work as a team and or independently.

Duties

• Clean laundry area and laundry machines; be able to operate various machines in the laundry (i.e., washing, dryer ironing and pressers). Iron, fold, count and pack laundered items and seal linen bags. Collect and deliver linen to clients except Edenvale hospital. Sort, count and record dirty linen. Do all laundry responsibilities as directed by the supervisor. Report any machine defaults to the supervisor. Do all laundry duties as directed by the supervisor.
