Placements24 seeks a skilled Drilling Engineer to join our operations team in George, Western Cape. You will plan, execute and supervise drilling programs for exploration and development wells, collaborating with rig crews, geologists and reservoir engineers to optimize performance.

Responsibilities include developing drilling plans, monitoring safety, managing equipment and budgets, and delivering post-drilling analyses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on drilling engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of drilling techniques, equipment and downhole tools.
• Familiarity with SA oil and gas regulations and safety standards.
• Proficiency in drilling software and data analysis.

• Develop detailed drilling programs including well design, casing, cementing and directional plans.
• Supervise on-site drilling operations and ensure safety and procedures are followed.
• Manage drilling-related equipment, services, contracting and procurement.
• Analyze costs and develop drilling budgets for projects.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Drilling Engineer to join their operations team based in George, Western Cape . This critical role involves planning, executing, and supervising drilling operations for exploration and development wells. You will be responsible for ensuring drilling activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively, adhering to all regulatory requirements and company standards. This position requires close collaboration with rig personnel, geologists, and reservoir engineers to overcome operational challenges and optimize drilling performance in the unique geological conditions of the region. You will be instrumental in the successful execution of well programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed drilling programs, including well design, casing, cementing, and directional drilling plans.
• Perform cost analysis and develop drilling budgets for assigned projects.
• Supervise drilling operations on-site, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational procedures.
• Manage drilling-related equipment and services, including contracting and procurement.
• Troubleshoot operational problems and implement solutions to minimize non-productive time (NPT).
• Conduct post-drilling analysis and prepare comprehensive reports on well performance and lessons learned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in drilling engineering , with hands‑on rig site experience.
• In‑depth knowledge of drilling techniques, equipment, and downhole tools.
• Familiarity with relevant South African oil and gas regulations and safety standards.
• Proficiency in drilling software and data analysis.
• Strong leadership, decision‑making, and problem‑solving abilities in a demanding operational environment.
