Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a specialized provider of hazardous materials transportation services, is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Dispatch Manager to join their operations team in Durban . This is a critical on‑site role responsible for the efficient and secure dispatch of hazardous goods shipments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of dangerous goods regulations, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to manage complex logistical operations under pressure. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the daily dispatch operations for hazardous materials shipments.
• Ensure all dispatches comply strictly with ADR (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road) and South African regulations.
• Coordinate with drivers, ensuring they have the correct documentation, permits, and equipment for hazardous cargo.
• Plan and optimize delivery routes, considering safety, efficiency, and client requirements for hazardous goods.
• Monitor real-time shipment progress and proactively address any issues or emergencies related to hazardous materials.
• Maintain accurate dispatch records, including manifests, proof of deliveries, and incident reports.
• Conduct regular safety briefings and training sessions for dispatch staff and drivers on handling hazardous materials.
• Manage relationships with regulatory bodies and ensure all necessary certifications are up-to-date.
• Implement and enforce strict safety protocols for loading, unloading, and securing hazardous cargo.
• Liaise with clients to confirm pickup and delivery requirements for their sensitive shipments.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in dispatch or operations management, with a significant focus on hazardous materials (HazMat) or dangerous goods (DG) transportation.
• In-depth knowledge of national and international regulations governing the transport of dangerous goods (e.g., ADR, IMDG Code where applicable).
• Proven ability to manage complex logistical operations in a high-pressure environment.
• Strong understanding of safety procedures for handling and transporting hazardous substances.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a dispatch team.
• Proficiency in dispatch management software and route optimization tools.
• Experience in crisis management and emergency response planning for hazardous incidents.
• A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are essential.
• Relevant certifications in dangerous goods handling and transportation (e.g., DGSA) are highly desirable.
