Placements24 is seeking a Director of Logistics and Distribution for a fully remote, South Africa–based leadership role. The candidate will design and optimize a global distribution network, oversee warehousing, transport, and inventory, and drive performance improvements across a multinational operation.

The role requires a Master’s in Supply Chain Management and 12+ years in logistics with 7+ in a senior leadership capacity.

About the Role Our client, a leading international e-commerce and retail conglomerate, is seeking a seasoned and visionary Director of Logistics and Distribution to lead their expansive operations. This is a paramount, fully remote leadership role based in South Africa, offering the strategic oversight of a complex, global distribution network. You will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and optimizing logistics strategies that ensure timely, cost-effective, and reliable delivery of goods to customers worldwide. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive logistics and distribution strategies aligned with the company's growth objectives and market demands.
• Oversee the end-to-end management of all warehousing, transportation, and inventory management functions across the global network.
• Drive initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and improve delivery performance through innovation and process optimization.
• Lead and mentor a high-performing, geographically dispersed team of logistics and distribution professionals.
• Establish and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) for logistics operations, monitoring performance and implementing corrective actions as needed.
• Evaluate and select logistics partners, technology providers, and transportation carriers to ensure optimal service and cost-effectiveness.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant international trade regulations, customs laws, and safety standards.
• Develop and manage departmental budgets, forecasting expenses and optimizing resource allocation.
• Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders (e.g., Sales, Operations, IT) and external partners to ensure seamless supply chain integration.
• Champion the adoption of advanced logistics technologies, automation, and data analytics to drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in logistics and distribution management, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role overseeing global operations.
• Proven track record of successfully designing, implementing, and managing large-scale, complex logistics and distribution networks.
• Extensive knowledge of warehousing, transportation management (all modes), inventory control, and international trade compliance.
• Demonstrated experience with advanced logistics technologies, WMS, TMS, automation, and data analytics platforms.
• Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding leadership, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to inspire and manage remote teams effectively.
• Strong financial acumen and experience managing significant departmental budgets.
• Experience working within a global, fast-paced e-commerce or retail environment is highly desirable.
• Ability to travel internationally as required for occasional site visits and partner meetings.
