Job summary

SMEC (an SJ Group company) in Durban seeks a senior Draughting professional to deliver complex 3D modelling, detailing and BIM implementation for water infrastructure projects. You will prepare tender/construction documents and provide technical support to the team, ensuring high quality drawings and client satisfaction.

You will mentor junior staff, lead project work, and coordinate multi-disciplinary efforts while maintaining SMEC’s standards and procedures.

Qualifications

• Professional registration in Autodesk-certified Draughting for Civil Engineering Projects (Bulk Water & Sewer).
• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in a similar position.
• Experience in water infrastructure projects and proficiency in Revit, Civil 3D, QGIS, BIM360 and ProjectWise.

Responsibilities

• 3D Modelling, detailing and quality audits on outgoing drawings/models.
• BIM implementation and standardisation of all drawings on project.
• Develop Autodesk templates/Libraries and tools to maintain standards.
• Mentor, train and provide technical support to junior staff.
• Contribute to conceptual and detailed design and drafting to prepare technical drawings and documentation.
• Provide practical and economical solutions to project deliverables.

Primary Position Purpose

Provide and undertake complex design modelling and production tasks, prepare tender/construction documents and provide technical support services in meeting the requirements of the functional group and its clients.

Key Responsibilities

• 3D Modelling, detailing and quality audits on outgoing drawings/ models
• BIM implementation
• Standardisation of all drawings on project
• Develop Autodesk templates/ Libraries, tools processes to maintain standards
• Participating in office technical discussions and project delivery meetings
• Mentor, train and provide technical support to junior staff
• Conducting conceptual and detailed design and drafting in order to prepare technical drawings and documentation
• Provide practical and economical solutions to project deliverables
• Applying a deeper understanding of modelling principles to devise and deliver practical and economical solutions to problems
• Maintain a high level of Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) and modelling expertise and engineering knowledge
• Undertake supervisor role and lead on projects
• Coordination of multi-disciplinary work on projects
• Contribute to the overall utilisation, management and profitably of the functional group
• Ensure drawings and documentation are to the highest quality
• Maintain client satisfaction
• Strictly adhere to SMEC’s Management System (MS), quality standards and OHS procedures
• Assist Project Managers with site queries and reporting solutions
• Parametric Modelling
• Model Federation and rendering development
• Automation and coding

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

• To work independently and self-motivated to produce accurate drawings to a high standard within set deadlines
• Be responsible for ensuring quality model and drawing outputs across all regions within the function
• Be responsible for growing the BIM capability within the team
• Prepare to travel and remain out of South Africa for short periods, liaise with client representative and consultants from other disciplines.

Recommended Qualifications, Skills And Experience

• Professional Registration in Draughting (Autodesk Certified) in Civil Engineering Projects. (Bulk Water & Sewer)

• Some key experience in relevant Water Infrastructure projects
• Proficiency in Revit, C3D, QGIS, and any other discipline associated software essential
• ACC / BIM360 and Projectwise Proficiency
• Modelling and Detailing to LOD 400-500
• Experience working on major infrastructure/ building projects
