Job summary

HFR is seeking a qualified diesel mechanic to maintain and repair a fleet of trucks in the East Rand. You will rebuild gearboxes and engines, run diagnostics, and plan servicing with the team.

The role requires 5 years post trade test experience, including 3 years in a senior position, and a Trade Certificate. Afrikaans/English communication is preferred, and a Code 14 license will be advantageous.

Qualifications

• Qualified Diesel mechanic with a Trade Certificate.
• 5 years post trade test experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
• Experience with Scania and Volvo is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that the team operates in accordance with the company’s standards.
• Rebuilds of differentials, gearboxes and engines as essential skills.
• Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results to propose solutions.
• Prepare work plans after fully scoping issues.
• Perform inspections per manufacturer requirements and truck specifications.
• Inspect vehicle systems including suspensions, steering and exhausts.
• Carry out servicing and mechanical repairs on trucks at depot.
• Identify spare requirements and maintain maintenance records.
• Communicate with service advisor, team and operations on service intervals.
• Ensure handover and maintenance activities are performed correctly.
• Conduct field visits during emergencies or breakdowns.
• Test drive repaired vehicles to gauge performance.
• Maintain parts inventory and serviced vehicle records.
