Job summary

University of Fort Hare in Cape Town is seeking a Data Centre Co-ordinator to maintain, install, decommission and coordinate interconnect cabling and PDU installations. You will support Remote Hands and Smart Hands requests and ensure high-quality services with SLA compliance.

The role requires robust cabling experience, data centre knowledge, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team while maintaining 99.99% uptime.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years relevant cabling experience.
• 5 years preferable.
• Good knowledge of Data Centre environments.
• Networking experience advantageous.
• Cabling and/or product certification advantageous.
• Proven experience with copper and fibre optic testing instruments.

Responsibilities

• Install and decommission cables per customer requirements (CAT5e, CAT6, Fibre).
• Test and label new cables, upload results and document routes within SLA.
• Test and troubleshoot cabling issues (CAT6, fibre) with testing instruments.
• Basic network understanding and loopback testing on copper, fibre, SFPs.
• Configure In Rack PDU, firmware updates and fault finding.
• Execute Remote Hands requests for rebooting servers, patching, labeling, auditing or Tape/Media swaps.
• Work in Wireless and PTP space; use media conversion between fibre and copper.
• Meet SLA and MSA requirements; maintain uptime.
• Run scheduled jobs per Infrastructure Supervisor / Data Centre Manager.
• Conduct administrative tasks to keep data centre systems organized.
• Liaise with other support staff to ensure uptime and high-quality services.
