You will apply ISO 27001/NIST standards, guide threat modeling and incident response, and drive governance and compliance programs for a renewable energy client with a hybrid work setup.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Cybersecurity, IT or related field.
• 8+ years' cybersecurity consulting experience.
• Experience securing critical infrastructure, energy sector preferred.
• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and regulations.
• Excellent communication and client management skills.

About the Role

Our client, a fast-growing renewable energy company, is seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Consultant on a contract basis to advise and enhance their security posture across their operations, including those in Upington, Northern Cape . This role requires a strategic thinker with extensive knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, risk management, and compliance within critical infrastructure sectors. You will conduct comprehensive security assessments, develop tailored security strategies, and assist in the implementation of robust security controls. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering expert advice and solutions to complex cybersecurity challenges. This consultancy position offers a significant opportunity to shape the security of a key player in South Africa's energy transition, supporting a dynamic presence in Upington .

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough cybersecurity risk assessments and gap analyses for the organization's IT and OT environments.
• Develop and recommend strategic cybersecurity roadmaps and implementation plans.
• Advise on the implementation of security controls aligned with industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).
• Provide expertise on areas such as threat intelligence, incident response, vulnerability management, and data protection.
• Assist in the development and refinement of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
• Support the organization in achieving and maintaining relevant compliance certifications.
• Deliver presentations and reports to senior management on cybersecurity risks and mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure security considerations are integrated into project lifecycles.
• Stay abreast of emerging cybersecurity threats and technologies relevant to the energy sector.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in cybersecurity consulting, with a focus on risk management and strategic advisory.
• Proven experience in assessing and securing critical infrastructure, particularly in the energy sector.
• Deep understanding of various cybersecurity frameworks, standards, and regulations.
• Expertise in threat modeling, vulnerability management, incident response planning, and enterprise security architecture.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and client-management skills.
• Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CISA, or equivalent are essential.
• Experience working with organizations in the Upington, Northern Cape region or similar provincial areas is highly valued.
