Job summary

Boardroom Appointments in Pretoria seeks a Product Engineer with an engineering degree and CAD/CAE tooling experience to translate customer requirements into robust product architectures and BOMs.

You will perform product calculations, stiffness and modal analyses, apply quality tools (APQP, FMEA, SPC), support cost targets, develop 3D models and drawings, and travel to support customers and business units.

Qualifications

• University degree in Engineering or similar.
• Reading, interpreting and defining technical drawings including GD&T definition.
• Strong analytical and problem solving using DMAIC process.
• Knowledge of development tools: APQP, MSA, SPC, FMEA, Value Stream Mapping and RPPC.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate customer product specifications and define product architecture/BOM to meet requirements.
• Perform product calculations including stiffness and modal analyses.
• Support cost estimation to identify product change opportunities for targets.
• Create product design (3D models and 2D drawings) with GD&T definitions.
• Apply quality tools (APQP, product architecture definition, FMEA).
• Support Business Units with local investigations and solutions.
• Research new product solutions and materials/processes.

Job description

• University degree in Engineering or similar.
• CAD/CAE tools specific training
• 2 years of related experience with hands on operational knowledge
• Previous experience as Product Engineer is a plus
• Experience working in an organization that has a well-implementedSafety Culture is a plus
• Availability to travel and give local support to customers and business units for small to medium periods (up to 6 months)

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• High level of communication and teamwork skills
• CAD skills (Catia V5 and NX preferred), PDM, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Reading, interpreting and defining technical drawings including GD&T definition
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills using DMAIC process (define, measure, etc)
• Knowledge of development tools: APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), MSA (Measurement System Analysis), SPC (Statistical Process Control), FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis), Value Stream Mapping) and RPPC (Ranking of Product / Process Characteristics)
• Strong technical knowledge of metal forming, pressing,shaping, joining, fastening, and machiningmethods.
• Languages: English fluent verbal and written mandatory

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate the product specifications from the customer (geometry, tolerances, relations between components, mechanical stiffness, modal response and other specifications) and define the product architecture/BOM (number of components, materials, surface treatments other product related characteristics) to meet the requirements in terms of product response
• Perform product calculations including stiffness and modal analysis to verify the product definition and specifications
• Support the process cost estimation team to identify product change opportunities to meet the economical targets
• Make the product design (3d models and 2D drawings) including GD&T definition and simulation
• Participate on the application of quality tools (APQP process), specifically the product architecture definition product functional analysis and product FMEA
• Support Business Units requests on product related difficulties by providing local investigation and solutions
• Participate on the research of new product solutions and application of new materials and processes
