Job summary

Booyco Electronics in Gauteng seeks a Production & Process Engineer to provide hands-on engineering support on the shop floor, owning the mechanical team and ensuring processes run safely and to specification. Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to the production floor, resolving process, tooling, equipment, and quality issues as they arise.
  • Act as first point of technical escalation for the mechanical & electronic team on production-related concerns.
  • Investigate production downtime, scrap, and rework, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor process performance and recommend improvements to throughput, yield, cycle time, and cost.
  • Support root‑cause analysis (e.g. 8D, 5-Why, fishbone) for production non-conformances.
  • Ensure production processes are carried out in compliance with safety, quality, and company standards.
  • Oversee and coordinate the mechanical team's day‑to‑day processing activities, ensuring work is prioritized and completed accurately and on time.
  • Allocate tasks related to NPG and BOM processing across the mechanical team and review output for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and on‑the‑job training to mechanical team members.
  • Review team workload and capacity, escalating resourcing constraints to the Engineering/Operations Manager.
  • Conduct quality checks on completed work to ensure adherence to engineering standards and procedures.
  • Take ownership of the end-to-end NPG process, ensuring all new parts are created, reviewed, and released into the system accurately.
  • Liaise with design, drawing office, and engineering teams to obtain correct part data, drawings, and specifications for new parts.
  • Verify that part numbers, descriptions, classifications, units of measure, and technical attributes are correctly captured in the ERP/PLM system.
  • Coordinate with the mechanical team to process NPG requests within agreed turnaround times.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies, duplications, or errors in new part data before release to production.
  • Maintain an audit trail and tracking log of all NPG requests, approvals, and completions.
  • Oversee the creation, structuring, and maintenance of accurate BOMs for new and existing products.
  • Ensure BOMs reflect the correct components, quantities, revisions, and assembly sequence.
  • Coordinate BOM changes arising from engineering change requests (ECRs/ECNs) and ensure timely updates across all affected systems.
  • Cross‑check BOMs against drawings, specifications, and as‑built products to ensure accuracy.
  • Work with planning, procurement, and production to resolve BOM‑related discrepancies that could impact material availability or production schedules.
  • Support phase‑in/phase‑out activities for part and product revisions, ensuring BOMs are updated accordingly.
  • Develop, document, and maintain work instructions, process routings, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and engineering change implementation on the production floor.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and waste reduction (Lean/Six Sigma principles).
  • Participate in cross‑functional projects involving new equipment, tooling, or process changes.
  • Maintain accurate process documentation and ensure version control of engineering records.
  • Ensure all NPG and BOM activities comply with company quality management system (e.g. ISO 9001) requirements.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on NPG/BOM processing status, backlog, and team performance to management.
  • Collaborate with design, quality, planning, procurement, and supply chain teams to ensure alignment on part and BOM data.

Job description

Job Purpose

The Production & Process Engineer is responsible for providing hands‑on engineering support to production, ensuring that manufacturing processes run efficiently, safely, and to specification. This role takes ownership of the mechanical team. Processing of all New Part Generations (NPGs) and Bill of Materials (BOMs), ensuring that new parts and assemblies are correctly introduced into production with accurate, complete, and up-to-date documentation. The role acts as the technical link between engineering, production, and supply chain to ensure smooth and accurate part introduction, process control, and continuous improvement on the shop floor.


Education, experience and competencies


  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a production/process engineering role within a manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating NPG and BOM processes.

  • Experience supervising or leading a technical/mechanical team is advantageous.

  • Working knowledge of ERP/PLM/MRP systems (e.g. SAP, Syspro, Oracle, or similar) for part creation and BOM management.

  • Familiarity with engineering change management (ECR/ECN) processes.

  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies is an advantage.
