Job summary

Network Recruitment in Johannesburg is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Draughtsman to produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings for conveyor systems and bulk material handling equipment. You will interpret engineering concepts, develop fabrication drawings, and ensure compliance with standards and client specs.

The role requires a Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Draughting, 3–5 years of relevant experience, and proficiency in AutoCAD or other 3D CAD tools.

Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings for conveyor systems and bulk material handling equipment. Develop general arrangement, fabrication, assembly and manufacturing drawings. Prepare detailed drawings for conveyor structures, frames, chutes, platforms, guards, pulleys and associated components.
• Interpret engineering calculations, specifications and design concepts and translate them into production-ready drawings.
• Ensure drawings comply with relevant engineering standards, company procedures and client specifications.
• Perform design modifications, revisions and drawing updates as required.
• Develop accurate BOMs and material schedules .
• Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, designers, project teams and manufacturing personnel.
• Liaise with fabrication and workshop teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
• Conduct drawing checks and identify potential clashes, dimensional issues or fabrication constraints.
• Maintain drawing, revision and document control throughout projects.
• Assist with site measurements, inspections and design updates where required.
• Support the engineering team with technical documentation and project deliverables.

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma, Certificate or relevant qualification in Mechanical Draughting / Mechanical Engineering Design.
• 35 years' relevant experience in mechanical design draughting.
• Proven experience with conveyor systems or bulk material handling equipment .
• Strong knowledge of mechanical fabrication and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or relevant 3D CAD software.
• Ability to produce detailed fabrication and manufacturing drawings.
• Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles, dimensions and tolerances.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Advantageous Experience

• Mining or minerals processing industry experience.
• Experience with belt conveyors, transfer stations, chutes and conveyor structures .
• Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor or similar 3D CAD platforms.
• Knowledge of bulk material handling equipment and associated mechanical components.
• Experience producing fabrication drawings for structural steelwork.
• Understanding of conveyor standards and relevant engineering codes.
• Site installation, commissioning or measurement experience.
