Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Control Systems Engineer for a hybrid role based in Paarl, Western Cape. You will design, implement, and maintain industrial control systems (ICS) for upstream and midstream projects, balancing on-site commissioning with remote system design and support.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Electrical/ Electronics Engineering or related field, 5+ years in industrial controls, and hands-on PLC programming (RSLogix, TIA Portal) plus SCADA and DCS experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial control systems engineering.
• Proficiency in PLC programming (RSLogix, TIA Portal) and SCADA/HMI development.
• Experience with DCS configuration and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of industrial networking protocols (Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement control system solutions (PLC/SCADA/HMI/DCS).
• Configure and program control systems on vendor platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson).
• Develop and maintain system documentation (P&IDs, control narratives, functional design specifications).
• Conduct system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting on-site and remotely.
• Provide technical support and training to clients and end-users.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and process engineers to meet requirements.
• Stay current with advancements in control system technology and automation trends.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
• Optimize existing control systems for performance, reliability and efficiency.
• Participate in project planning and proposal development.
