About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Control and Instrumentation Engineer to join their innovative engineering team, primarily working remotely with occasional site visits. This role is critical for the design, implementation, and maintenance of sophisticated control systems and instrumentation for industrial processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of automation technologies, PLCs, SCADA systems, and process control strategies. You will play a key role in optimizing plant performance, ensuring safety, and enhancing operational efficiency through advanced engineering solutions. This position offers the flexibility of remote work, supported by collaboration with on-site teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Configure and commission SCADA systems for process monitoring and control.
• Select appropriate instrumentation (sensors, transmitters, actuators) for various industrial applications.
• Develop P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and control system architectures.
• Implement and maintain control loops, tuning parameters for optimal performance.
• Develop and execute testing and validation procedures for control systems and instrumentation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex control system and instrumentation issues, both remotely and on-site.
• Ensure compliance with industry safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with process engineers, mechanical engineers, and operations teams to define system requirements.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, manuals, and calibration records.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in industrial control systems and instrumentation engineering.
• Proven experience with major PLC/DCS platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric).
• Proficiency in SCADA system configuration and HMI development.
• Strong understanding of process control theory and methodologies.
• Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP).
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills, capable of effective remote collaboration and technical documentation.
• Ability to perform site visits as required.
• Must be legally authorized to work remotely in South Africa.
