Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the construction industry, is actively seeking a diligent and experienced Construction Safety Officer to ensure the highest safety standards on their projects in Midrand, Gauteng . This critical role involves developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive health and safety programs across various construction sites. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of OHS Act regulations and best practices, demonstrating a proactive approach to hazard identification, risk assessment, and accident prevention. You will be responsible for conducting safety training, site inspections, and incident investigations to foster a safe working environment for all personnel. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage the site-specific Health and Safety (H&S) plan.
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to all site personnel, including toolbox talks.
• Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment.
• Maintain accurate H&S records, including inspection reports, training logs, and accident statistics.
• Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and project management teams on safety matters.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the project sites.
• Review method statements and risk assessments submitted by contractors.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
• Registered as a Safety Officer with a recognized professional body (e.g., SAIOSH).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction health and safety.
• Thorough knowledge of the South African OHS Act and relevant regulations.
• Experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety audits.
• Proficiency in developing and delivering safety training.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with site teams.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various sites within Midrand, Gauteng and surrounding areas.
