Job summary

Alexforbes is seeking a Compliance professional to lead group governance initiatives and oversee the regulatory tracker, reporting on compliance status to management and boards. You design control self-assessments and support monitoring plans across the group.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years in financial services, with advantageous RE1/RE5 or ACAMS credentials. Flexible, hybrid work is offered with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree qualification or equivalent.
  • 3–5 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry.
  • Solid understanding of compliance principles, governance, risk management, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  • Ability to identify and analyze issues in risk and internal control environments.
  • RE1/RE5, ACAMS or CPrac advantageous

Job description

To drive completion of Group Compliance strategy and provide support in ensuring the achievement of the Group Governance mission and objectives.

Responsibilities:

Regulatory Forum:

  • Ensure that updates are made to the Regulatory tracker for all new and amended pieces of legislation relating to the Group.
  • Advise management on the status of Group’s compliance with laws and regulations through detailed reports.
  • Prompt first line compliance and business for feedback to ensure that adequate controls are in place prior to legislation going live.

Compliance Universe:

  • Ensure that the Group’s compliance universe is always kept up to date..

Compliance Monitoring:

  • Ensure consistency in the approach and execution of compliance monitoring.
  • Providing input into the annual monitoring planning process, ensuring consistency and relevance according to risk.
  • Ensure the completion and delivery of the annual compliance monitoring plan.
  • Review, evaluate and optimise tools, processes, and reporting to drive efficiencies of controls.
  • Implement and monitor changes and new controls introduced, and ensure changes are embedded into operations.
  • Design control self-assessments using risk-based methodology to test processes and assess compliance.

Compliance Risk Management Plans:

  • Ensure that progress updates are sent on a consistent basis to first line compliance and the business and the business.
  • Ensure the Completion of Compliance Risk Management Plans.
  • Ensure adequate controls are in place within the Groups risk appetite.

Compliance Reporting:

  • Ensure that compliance reports are ready timeously for each respective committee and Board meetings.
  • Continually assess the effectiveness of reports and enhance based on target audience.
  • Assist with ad hoc reports as and when required.

Training and awareness:

  • Provide input into the training and awareness plan.
  • Conduct and develop training to compliance community and business.

General:

  • Implement risk management, governance, and compliance controls, to identify and manage governance and risk exposure liability.
  • Monitor and manage the compliance calendar and meeting roster.
  • Manage and update the Group’s Non-Compliance Incident Register.
  • Proactively reduce risks and enhance compliance detection concerns by driving alignment across functions in terms of system adaption and implementation.
  • Highlight key governance, control and process deficiencies to business and compliance and agree timelines to close out deviations.
  • Be risk focussed by continually assessing both internal and external factors that influence the entities risk profile within the Group.
  • Conduct policy reviews as and when required.
  • Work closely with other teams and other assurance providers across the Group.
  • Support Manager and the Group Chief Compliance Officer strategies by ensuring understanding and execution

Required:

  • Matric
  • Position requires a bachelor’s degree qualification; and or
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in the Financial Services industry.
  • Good understanding of compliance principles and approaches,
  • Strong understanding of governance, risk management, internal controls, compliance, and financial reporting to allow for identification, assessment,
  • Analysis of issues related to the risk and internal control environment.
  • RE1 or RE5, ACAMS and or CPrac advantageous

Business Skills :

  • Continuously enhancing and keeping abreast of industry and trends and regulations.
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and remediate.
  • Lead, guide, and support the people within division.
