Job summary

AIB Cape in Milnerton, Western Cape, is seeking an experienced Commercial Lines underwriter with FAIS qualifications and RE5 exams to join our broker-focused team. The role includes renewals, endorsements, risk analysis, and client growth in a collaborative environment.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years of underwriting experience in a broker setting, are registered Representatives, and are aligned with FAIS Fit & Proper requirements.

Qualifications

• Five to ten years underwriting experience in Commercial Lines insurance, ideally in a broker environment.
• RE5 exams passed and FAIS qualifications.
• Registered as a Representative for Advice and Intermediary Services without supervision.

Responsibilities

• Build rapport and market the company in all client interactions.
• Processing of new business, renewals and endorsements in line with internal processes and standards.
• Retain and upsell existing clients and develop referrals and opportunities as a team.
• Conduct corrective action at renewal including rating adjustments.
• Review uninsured risks at renewal to ensure informed insurance choices.
• Ensure compliance and procedural requirements are met at all times.
• Manage insurer risk requirements toward consent and acceptance by the insurer.
• Provide excellent client service and risk analysis for clients.

Responsibilities:

• Build rapport and market the company in all client interactions;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Excellent analytical skills i.e. an enquiring mind or risk & insurance nose;
• Processing of new business, renewals and endorsements, in line with our internal processes and standards;
• Endeavour to be an extension of your external broker(s) business growth or targets, by retaining and up selling existing clients and by proactively, as a team, creating, nurturing and converting referrals and other business opportunities;
• Conducting corrective action at renewal, including rating adjustments - a good knowledge of the market is essential;
• Reviewing uninsured risks at renewal, including at any stage during the currency of the policy, based on ensuring, that at all times, you have a thorough understanding of the clients business activities;
• Ensure compliance and procedural requirements are met at all times;
• Managing insurer risk requirements, to the point of compliance and acceptance by the insurer;
• Going the extra mile for the business and the external broker(s) in your team;
• Enhancing the client relationship, by excellent service in all client interactions;
• Ability to double check, before processing, another persons commercial risk analysis / Record of Advice and the ability to conduct your own risk commercial risk analysis or Record of Advice, to ensure the client makes an informed insurance choice, in all interactions with the company.
• Five to ten years underwriting experience in Commercial Lines insurance, ideally in a broker environment;
• FAIS qualified for Short Term Commercial & Personal lines;
• Passed the RE 5 exams;
• Must have been registered as a "Representative", for Advice and Intermediary Services, without being under Supervision;
• Meet all FAIS Fit & Proper requirements;

The remuneration will be commensurate with experience.
