Job summary

University of Fort Hare is seeking a Commercial Solar Sales Executive in Durban to grow our commercial PV, battery storage, and backup power portfolio. You will manage your own pipeline, drive projects from lead generation through to close and handover, and work with a team to deliver tailored solar solutions.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of proven solar PV/B2B sales experience and a strong technical understanding of grid-tied and hybrid systems with battery storage.

Qualifications

• Proven sales experience (3-5 years) in solar PV/renewable energy or related technical industries.
• Strong technical understanding of solar PV systems including grid-tied, hybrid, and battery storage.
• Experience in commercial / B2B sales is essential.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within KZN.
• Computer literacy including email, spreadsheets, proposals, and CRM systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify, develop, and close sales opportunities in commercial, agricultural, industrial, and institutional sectors.
• Promote and sell commercial PV systems, battery storage solutions, and backup power systems.
• Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline through networking, referrals, site visits, and follow-ups.
• Conduct client needs analyses and propose suitable technical solutions with the technical team.
• Prepare and present proposals, quotations, and ROI discussions.
• Develop long-term relationships with clients, consultants, property owners and decision-makers.
• Serve as the main contact from initial engagement to project confirmation and handover.

• Develop long-term relationships with clients, consultants, property owners, and decision-makers.
• Act as the key point of contact from initial engagement through project confirmation.
• Ensure accurate handover to operations and maintain post-sale client engagement where required.
• Maintain accurate records of leads, opportunities, and sales activities.
• Follow internal sales processes and reporting requirements.
• Work closely with engineering, procurement, and installation teams to ensure feasible and deliverable solutions.
