Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Civil Engineer to lead water and sanitation projects in George, Western Cape. You will design, oversee, and implement water treatment plants, pipelines, and wastewater systems to serve the community.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, 6+ years’ experience, knowledge of EPANET/WaterGEMS and AutoCAD Civil 3D, strong PM and stakeholder skills; site visits around George.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline.
• Pr. Eng. or Pr. Eng. Tech. registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in water and wastewater projects.
• Experience with hydraulic modelling software (EPANET, WaterGEMS) and CAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D).
• Knowledge of SA water quality standards, environmental regulations, and SANS specs.
• Strong PM skills including planning, scheduling and cost control.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to undertake site visits in George area.

Responsibilities

• Design and planning of water supply infrastructure (dams, pipelines, pump stations, treatment facilities).
• Develop and implement wastewater collection systems and treatment processes.
• Conduct hydraulic modelling to optimize performance and capacity.
• Prepare drawings, specs and BOQ for tender and construction.
• Manage budgets, schedules and resources to ensure timely delivery.
• Supervise site works ensuring compliance with design and safety standards.
• Coordinate with environmental scientists, geologists and construction managers.
• Liaise with municipal authorities for approvals and stakeholder engagement.
• Troubleshoot technical challenges during design and build.
