Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Chief Surveyor to oversee all surveying activities for mining development projects in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will lead a team of surveyors, manage equipment, and implement the latest surveying technologies to ensure precise spatial data for mine planning, construction, and operation.

You will guide engineers and construction teams, manage RTK GPS, total stations, and 3D laser scanning, and maintain rigorous standards for land tenure and mining

Qualifications

• Professional Land Surveyor qualification or equivalent.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in surveying, with at least 5 years in the mining or large-scale civil construction industry.
• Proficiency with industry-standard surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center).
• Extensive experience with advanced surveying technologies, including RTK GPS, total stations, and 3D laser scanning.
• Strong knowledge of land tenure, mining regulations, and spatial data management.
• Excellent leadership, project management, and problem-solving capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive surveying plans and procedures for mining projects.
• Conduct and supervise detailed topographic, boundary, and volumetric surveys using advanced equipment.
• Ensure the accuracy of survey data for mine design, earthworks, and infrastructure development.
• Manage and maintain all surveying instruments, including total stations, GPS, and laser scanners.
• Process and interpret survey data, producing accurate maps, plans, and reports.
• Provide expert guidance to engineers, geologists, and construction teams on survey-related matters.
