About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding regional airline with a significant presence in **Pretoria**, is seeking a highly experienced and authoritative Chief Pilot to lead its flight operations department. This executive role is responsible for the overall safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance of all flight operations. The Chief Pilot will oversee pilot training, scheduling, performance management, and adherence to operational procedures. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a deep understanding of aviation regulations, and a proven ability to manage complex flight operations in a dynamic environment. This is a key leadership position within our client's operations in **Pretoria**.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure all flight operations are conducted in compliance with relevant aviation regulations (SACAA, ICAO) and company policies.
• Oversee the recruitment, training, qualification, and ongoing performance assessment of all pilots.
• Develop and manage the pilot duty roster to ensure adequate coverage while adhering to flight time limitations and rest requirements.
• Establish and maintain high standards for flight crew discipline, professionalism, and operational effectiveness.
• Manage the flight operations manual (FOM) and standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring they are current and effectively implemented.
• Act as the primary point of contact with regulatory authorities regarding flight operations matters.
• Lead investigations into operational incidents or deviations, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making regarding fleet operations, route development, and operational efficiency.
• Foster a positive safety culture and promote continuous improvement in all aspects of flight operations.
• Manage the operational budget for the flight department.

Requirements

• Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) with substantial command experience on relevant aircraft types operated by the airline.
• Minimum of 10 years of aviation experience, with at least 5 years in a significant management role (e.g., Chief Pilot, Director of Flight Operations, Training Captain).
• In-depth knowledge of aviation legislation, air traffic control, meteorology, and aircraft systems.
• Proven experience in developing and managing flight operations manuals and standard operating procedures.
• Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a large team of pilots and operational staff.
• Experience with regulatory audits and compliance management.
• Proficiency in flight scheduling software and operational management tools.
• Must hold a valid medical certificate and pass background checks.
• Ability to represent the company professionally with stakeholders and regulatory bodies in **Pretoria**.
