Placements24 in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, is seeking a Chief Aircraft Maintenance Engineer to oversee the airworthiness and maintenance of our client's fleet. This senior leadership role combines strategic oversight with hands-on on-site management to ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

You will lead a team of engineers and technicians, manage maintenance programs and budgets, liaise with SACAA and other stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement across MRO operations.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in aircraft maintenance
• At least 5 years in leadership roles
• Valid AME license with relevant type ratings
• Strong knowledge of SACAA regulations and safety standards
• Strategic leadership and budgeting experience

Responsibilities

• Oversee all maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations for the fleet.
• Ensure compliance with aviation regulations, including SACAA.
• Develop and manage the aircraft maintenance program (AMP).
• Lead and mentor engineers and technicians; foster safety culture.
• Manage maintenance budgets for cost-effectiveness without compromising safety.

About the Role

Our client, a leading airline based in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape , is seeking an experienced and highly qualified Chief Aircraft Maintenance Engineer to oversee their fleet's airworthiness and maintenance operations. This senior leadership role requires a strategic thinker with extensive technical expertise in aircraft maintenance and a strong understanding of regulatory compliance. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring all maintenance activities adhere to the strictest safety and quality standards. This hybrid role requires significant on-site presence for hands-on oversight and team management, with potential for remote coordination on administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations for the company's fleet.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant aviation regulations, including those set by the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA).
• Develop, implement, and manage the organization's aircraft maintenance program (AMP).
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of aircraft maintenance engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of excellence and safety.
• Manage maintenance budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness without compromising safety or quality.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, suppliers, and other stakeholders on maintenance-related matters.
• Oversee the planning and execution of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ensure the availability and proper functioning of necessary tools, equipment, and facilities.

Requirements

• Advanced Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Aircraft Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license with relevant type ratings.
• A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in aircraft maintenance, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
• Proven track record in managing complex maintenance operations and large fleets.
• In-depth knowledge of aviation regulations, airworthiness standards, and safety management systems (SMS).
• Strong leadership, team management, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and financial management abilities.
• Proficiency in using aircraft maintenance software and IT systems.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
