About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Chemical Engineer with specialized expertise in solids handling and processing to join their team in Mossel Bay, Western Cape . This role focuses on the design, optimization, and troubleshooting of processes involving the handling, conveying, storage, and processing of solid materials. You will play a key role in improving the efficiency, safety, and reliability of these operations. This is a hybrid position, requiring you to work both on-site at our Mossel Bay facility and remotely. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of powder technology, particle size reduction, granulation, and bulk material handling systems. Key Responsibilities

• Design and specify equipment for solids handling, conveying, storage, and processing (e.g., conveyors, silos, feeders, crushers, mills, granulators).
• Optimize existing solids processing operations to improve efficiency, throughput, and product quality.
• Conduct troubleshooting of equipment and process issues related to solids handling.
• Develop and implement safe operating procedures for solids processing equipment.
• Perform calculations related to particle mechanics, material flow, and equipment sizing.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, operations staff, and maintenance teams.
• Conduct dust hazard analyses (DHAs) and implement mitigation strategies.
• Stay current with advancements in solids processing technologies and equipment.
• Manage small to medium-sized projects related to solids handling upgrades or installations.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and equipment specifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on process.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience specifically in solids handling and processing within an industrial setting.
• Strong knowledge of powder flow properties, particle characterization, and material handling equipment.
• Experience with process simulation tools relevant to solids handling is a plus.
• Understanding of safety considerations for handling combustible dusts and bulk solids.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in a hybrid team.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Experience with project management is beneficial.
• Must be eligible to work in South Africa and reside within commuting distance of Mossel Bay or be willing to travel for on-site work.
