Placements24 is recruiting a Senior Chemical Process Engineer for our client in Upington, Northern Cape, SA. The role focuses on designing, optimizing, and scaling sustainable chemical processes within state-of-the-art facilities, balancing collaboration and individual productivity.

The ideal candidate has 5–7 years in chemical process design, proficiency with Aspen Plus or HYSYS, and a strong safety mindset. Hybrid work arrangement and opportunities for professional development are provided.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 5–7 years of progressive experience in chemical process design and optimization.
• Proficiency with Aspen Plus or HYSYS for process simulations.
• Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, reaction kinetics, and mass transfer.
• Experience with HAZOP and process safety analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate across departments; project management is a plus.
• Legal work authorization in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize chemical processes for enhanced efficiency and sustainability.
• Conduct feasibility studies and pilot plant trials for new processes and product developments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues in production, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum output.
• Develop and implement process safety management protocols, adhering to all relevant regulations.
• Collaborate with R&D, production, and quality control teams to ensure seamless integration of processes.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
• Monitor process performance using data analysis and implement improvements based on findings.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to operational staff.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of new equipment and process modifications.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and industry best practices in chemical engineering.
