Job summary

AJ Personnel is seeking a senior business development and sales leader to drive growth in the diesel generator sector in Johannesburg, South Africa. You will manage sales staff, develop distributor agreements, and report results for executive governance.

You will oversee strategic product, pricing, and marketing activities, expand the customer base for engine, alternator, and CKD options, and prepare annual sales budgets aligned with product roadmaps. Strong industry knowledge is essential.

Qualifications

  • Proven business development and sales leadership experience in the diesel generator industry.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in business and sales management.
  • Formal qualification in Business Management is advantageous.
  • Technical qualifications in electrical or Generating Power Systems is advantageous.
  • Proficient on MS Office Suite.
  • Commercial and distributor agreement knowledge and managing Dealer and Distributor KPI’s.
  • Proven track record in developing a Distributor network with generators and power products.
  • Good knowledge of reputable and reliable equipment and service Suppliers in the power supply chain industry.
  • Code 8 driver’s license
  • Valid passport

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support allocated sales staff and activities.
  • Develop a distributor and service network with agreements.
  • Monitor and report on external sales results for Exco reporting purposes.
  • Achieve the allocated and agreed annual sales target and preparation of revenue budget.
  • Strategic product, sales and marketing within the business unit.
  • Develop a customer base for power kit (engine and alternator) and CKD (Knocked Down Kit options).
  • Prepare annual sales budgets in line with current and new product plans.
  • Plan and present formal sales presentations during internal and external business activities.
  • Plan, monitor and report on the BU’s External Sales Staff activities and results.
  • Assist, when requested, with business development in other areas of Africa.
  • Identify, communicate, and assist in the sales process for project opportunities.
  • Participate in exhibitions and trade shows, when requested.
  • Cold calling on new prospects.
  • Assist in conducting regular calls to obtain sales feedback and support the establishment of new opportunities.
  • Liaise with customers and new prospects to understand their market demands, constraints, and requirements.
  • Participate in site inspections / tender briefings, when needed to gather more information around the enquiry opportunity.
  • Prepare strategic costing for new/current product developments and market analysis in line with growth targets and products related to the business.
  • Liaise with the Engineering Department and partake in formulating the best possible solution to meet Customer requirements at a competitive price point.
  • Compile proposals in the event of high RFQ intake.
  • Compile weekly/monthly reports indicating the status of proposals and network developments.
  • Provide detailed up to date feedback in the existing sales pipeline and management tools (Quote Register, CRM etc.)
  • Credit vetting and commercial processes to limit financial risk to the company
  • Responsible for sales mentoring, training, and guidance in terms of Sales staff and factors influencing sales and service
  • Assist in generator application training, where required to enhance staff skills development
  • Compliment the Projects and Product Department with mentoring, training and guidance for technical design, proposals, and proper identification of customer requirements with solution orientation
  • Participate in the environment where Management, Team Leaders and Supervisors are moved to higher levels of effectiveness, independent decision making and sustained ownership that mitigates risk to the company
  • Offer support to the Marketing team in terms of media and exhibition for this BU
  • Attend external marketing activities where the BU needs to be represented
  • Compile and/or assist with information related to products and services of the BU in preparation for marketing to execute our marketing needs
  • Identify and be active in the marketing needs of the BU during budgeting etc.
