The ideal candidate will diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex building infrastructure, plan preventive maintenance, and coordinate with facility management and external contractors to uphold high standards of safety and tenant comfort.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years in building systems maintenance or similar roles.
• Experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire safety systems.

Responsibilities

• Oversee maintenance and repair of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and security.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
• Diagnose system malfunctions and implement solutions.
• Respond to emergency maintenance requests with minimal disruption.

About the Role

Our client is a prominent property management group seeking a highly competent Building Systems Maintenance Engineer for their facilities in the Mossel Bay, Western Cape area. This role is critical for ensuring the efficient operation, safety, and upkeep of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression. The ideal candidate will possess a strong engineering background with hands-on experience in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex building infrastructure. You will be responsible for planning and executing preventive maintenance schedules, responding to urgent system failures, and overseeing small-scale upgrade projects. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work effectively both independently and in coordination with facility management teams. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the maintenance and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, lighting, and security systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in building systems maintenance, facility engineering, or a similar role.
• Proven expertise in HVAC systems, electrical systems (including power distribution), plumbing, and fire safety systems.
• Strong understanding of building automation systems (BAS) and control technologies.
• Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise with tenants, contractors, and management.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertaining to building maintenance in Western Cape.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Certified Facility Manager (CFM) certification is a plus.
