Job summary

A Building Engineer role in Cape Town is available to oversee maintenance, planning and inspection of a major operational facility. You will ensure critical equipment availability, lifecycle management and safety compliance.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Built Environment/Engineering, ECSA registration or candidate status, 5–8 years’ experience in engineering or building maintenance, and at least 2 years of supervisory experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) in Built Environment or Engineering.
• Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or candidate registration.
• 5–8 years’ experience in engineering or building maintenance.
• At least 2 years’ supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of maintenance planning and health and safety principles.

Responsibilities

• Manage corrective, preventive and operational maintenance, including equipment replacement programmes.
• Oversee external service providers and ensure adherence to contractual, budget and service-level requirements.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with building and engineering operations.
• Ensure building systems comply with legislative, engineering, health and safety standards.
• Manage the installation, maintenance and operating procedures of building systems.
• Develop and manage service-level agreements and contracts with external stakeholders.
• Monitor and report on maintenance budgets and project expenditure.
• Optimise building performance, equipment life cycles and associated operating costs.
• Drive continuous improvement across workflows and technical resources.
• Lead, develop and manage the performance of technical employees.

Are you an experienced engineering or built environment professional with a strong background in building maintenance, technical operations and facilities management?

We are recruiting on behalf of a client for a Building Engineer to oversee the maintenance, planning and inspection of a major operational facility in Cape Town. The successful candidate will play a key role in extending the lifespan of the building, ensuring the availability of critical technical equipment and maintaining compliance with legislative, health and safety requirements.
