Job summary

Teleios Edge in Durban is seeking an experienced Broker Consultant to join our client’s team. The role focuses on building strong relationships with independent brokers, managing an existing portfolio and pursuing new business opportunities.

You will drive growth in short-term insurance products, lead broker meetings and collaborate with underwriting, administration and sales to ensure accurate documentation and smooth renewals.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience within the South African short-term insurance industry.
• Proven experience working directly with brokers or brokerages.
• Strong understanding of short-term insurance products, underwriting principles and broker portfolio management.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships with independent brokers and brokerages.
• Manage and develop an existing portfolio while identifying opportunities for new business.
• Drive growth across short-term insurance products and achieve agreed sales and portfolio targets.
• Conduct regular broker meetings, presentations and relationship visits.
• Understand broker requirements and identify opportunities to strengthen or expand business.
• Support brokers with product, underwriting and relevant business information.
• Monitor portfolio performance, including growth, renewals and loss ratios.
• Review upcoming renewals and identify areas requiring premium or risk adjustments.
• Ensure broker and policy documentation is complete and accurately maintained.
• Work closely with internal underwriting, administration, finance and sales teams.
• Keep brokers informed of relevant underwriting requirements and changes affecting their portfolios.
• Represent the business professionally within the broker market.

• RE5 / RE1 and full insurance qualification
• Relevant Short-Term Insurance qualification, preferably NQF Level 4/5 with the required FAIS credits.
• Strong understanding of short-term insurance products, underwriting principles and broker portfolio management.
• Commercially driven with strong relationship-building and negotiation skills.
• Valid South African driver's licence and willingness to travel.
• English and Afrikaans business proficiency
