Job summary

Reign Energy in South Africa is seeking an experienced Borehole Rig Operator/Driller to join our drilling team. You will operate borehole drilling rigs, transport equipment and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards across various sites, including remote locations.

The ideal candidate has proven borehole rig experience, a valid Heavy Vehicle Licence and PDP, plus maintenance and fault-finding skills. Willingness to travel and work away from home is required.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Borehole Rig Operator / Driller.
• Valid Heavy Vehicle Driver’s Licence suitable for the vehicles operated.
• Valid PDP (Professional Driving Permit).
• Good knowledge of borehole drilling equipment and procedures.
• Experience with drilling equipment maintenance and basic fault-finding.
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety.
• Ability to work outdoors and in physically demanding conditions.
• Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
• Reliable, responsible and safety-conscious.

Responsibilities

• Operate borehole drilling rigs and associated equipment safely and efficiently.
• Set up and prepare drilling rigs and work areas at various sites.
• Conduct drilling operations according to site and project requirements.
• Monitor drilling progress, depth, pressure and equipment performance.
• Handle drill rods, casing, compressors, pumps and related equipment.
• Assist with borehole casing, development and completion.
• Carry out daily inspections and basic maintenance of drilling equipment.
• Identify and report mechanical or operational faults.
• Drive heavy vehicles to and from drilling sites.
• Transport drilling rigs, equipment, materials and authorised personnel safely.
• Ensure all loads are correctly secured before transportation.
• Complete daily drilling, vehicle and equipment records.
• Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised drilling site.
• Work at different locations, including remote sites, when required.

ABOUT THE POSITION

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Borehole Rig Operator / Driller with a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence and PDP to join our drilling team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating borehole drilling equipment, assisting with borehole installation and completion, transporting drilling equipment and materials, and ensuring that all drilling and driving activities comply with company, safety and environmental standards.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Proven experience as a Borehole Rig Operator / Driller.
• Valid Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver’s Licence suitable for the vehicles operated.
• Valid PDP (Professional Driving Permit).
• Good knowledge of borehole drilling equipment and procedures.
• Experience with drilling equipment maintenance and basic fault-finding.
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety.
• Ability to work outdoors and in physically demanding conditions.
• Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
• Reliable, responsible and safety-conscious.

ADVANTAGEOUS

• Experience with DTH, air drilling, mud rotary or similar drilling methods.
• Relevant drilling qualification or training.
• First Aid or other relevant safety certificates.
• Mechanical/diesel mechanic experience.
• Experience working on construction, mining, agricultural or water projects.
